A1 Chinese Radio: Him Law (羅仲謙) Fan Signing

HELLO EVERYONE! QUICK UPDATES:
  • The last month has been uneventful as always except for the fact that I celebrated my birthday on the 21st (my actual birthday is on the 24th) with my closest friends. We went for hotpot, and it was pretty awesome, but I'll talk about that another time and upload pictures too.
  • I just signed onto this blog to see that we got a lot of views/reads for my EXO post. Avid K-Pop fans out there, I'm guessing? Thank you so much for that. It's actually the most amount of views/reads on a post that this blog has, I think. Maybe I should just do more K-Pop related blog posts from now on. (Edit: That post is now at around 9k views?)
ONWARDS TO THE MAIN POINT OF THIS POST...

I'm going to try and be as eloquent and use the least amount of profanity as possible on the following description of my day yesterday. If I swear, please excuse me because I was about to cut a bitch yesterday.

Yesterday, my friend and I left our homes at 10:30 in the morning to hop on the bus for an hour long bus ride to Splendid China Mall to meet Him Law, a popular Hong Kong actor, for his autograph session. Let's start my rant here. Why did we leave at 10:30, and not earlier for an event like this? Why didn't we line up outside the mall two days ahead of time? Okay. So Him Law... ain't no Justin Bieber. He may be popular in Hong Kong, but outside of that little area, I don't think many people really knows who he is. Now, I would have left home earlier, but I had learned my lesson from last year. On June 29th/30th of last year, Raymond Wong (黃浩然) was invited to come to Canada (also by A1 Chinese Radio) for a fan signing. Being an avid fan of his work, I dragged my friend to leave early in the morning with me at 8:30AM. When we reach Splendid China Mall, no stores were open, and we actually ended up reaching there before the set-up crew for the event. This time though, we had a plan! We left at 10:30, got there around 11:40, ate lunch, and we stood in line at around 12:20. We were about the 20th people in line (as opposed to last year when we were probably 5th).

NO BIG DEAL, right? It's not like the people at the front of the line got any special perks. We knew that; we were here last year. NOPE. After waiting in line for almost 2 hours, a volunteer at the event started handing out posters for people to hand to Him Law to sign later. Awesome, right? They thought ahead this year! Last year, no one got posters until late into the event. When I had went to grab a poster last year, I actually got yelled at by some ignorant man telling me to not cut in line. WTF... I am standing in front of the person handing out posters and am in no way in a position that indicates that I was prepared to cut in line. But whatever. WHAT MATTERS IS... this year, they're handing out posters early! NOOOPE. They were only handing out approximately 10 posters, and only the people at the front of the line got them. I don't know how absolutely stupid these event planners were, but did you expect only 10 people to show up to this event? I mean, if only 10 people did, then you might as well not host the damn thing. IF I HAD KNOWN THAT THE FIRST 10 PEOPLE GOT POSTERS, I WOULD HAVE BEEN HERE EARLIER. UGH. Okay, fine. I'll let that slide. Him Law will just sign my mini autograph ticket! If you think that worked out, you are sorely mistaken. Why? Because they took back the mini autograph tickets. HOW CHEAP DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO COLLECT BACK THE TICKETS YOU HANDED OUT? IT WAS LITERALLY 1/20TH OF A STANDARD 8"x11" PIECE OF PAPER. But what did the hosts have to say about this? "Just go over to a newspaper stand nearby and buy the SingTao newspaper! The cover is a picture of Him Law!" What do you possibly benefit from that? It's not like you get no damn commission from the newspaper stands for sending people to buy your newspapers. So, I bought the newspaper. It's cool; it didn't cost that much anyways. What did I see when I got on stage for the signing? Mini-posters beside Him Law's arms in case you have nothing for him to sign on. If anger could kill, I swear that everyone at that mall would be dead except for Him Law and I.

Deep breathes, girl, deep breathes.

So, at the event, there were a lot of chairs that were surrounded by these gates that went around where people stood, as pictured below:

So you're thinking... that should fit almost everyone who's standing outside the gates, right? NO. Do you know who took all the seats? VIP members. Do you know where the VIP members are? Probably shopping around the mall, NOT IN LINE, because they already have guaranteed spots. You're exaggerating! How many VIP members can there possibly be! Enough to fill the entire seating area. So aside from getting posters, what benefits do the first few people gain? Absolutely nothing. You think you're coming here early so you can get great seats at the front. You'll be up close and personal with your favourite actor, but no. You're stuck still standing for another couple of hours as the event goes on. Oh, how old were these VIP fans? Average age range: 40s-60s. I mean, fan girling doesn't have a limit, I understand. But when the average age of everyone standing in line is 15-25, and the actor is 28... nah, I don't see anything wrong with that AT ALL! -rolls eyes- But it's fine. I'm not going to rant too much about that because I can't guarantee that I won't be like this when I'm middle-aged as well. All I want at this point is to just take a nice photo with Him Law. Screw the rest.

I'm going to take a moment out of this post to dedicate my annoyance to the people standing in front and behind me. So, two-girls-behind-me... YOU'RE LOUD. Let's put it this way. When I think you're loud, you must have serious issues. Because let's face it, as a Chiu Chow girl, it's in my damn blood to have the whole room hear my voice when I speak. But you know what, there's a time and place. If you scream for the people singing before the event, that's cool. If you scream when Him Law walks in, that's cool.  If you just got a fabulous picture with Him and you're screaming as you run off the stage, that's cool too. But to literally scream like crazy over a lame joke your friend told you, IN MY EAR, you best be glad I'm not one to pick fights with people. What I wanted to say to you? "Can you kindly not scream over the most idiotic of jokes? If I'm not allowed to judge you for your clearly special idea of what is humourous, then I sure as hell can judge you for you manners. Has your mother never taught you to use your indoor voice? There are hundreds of people waiting in line in a quiet mall. If you must laugh oh-so loudly, I'll even grant you that. SO LONG AS YOU DON'T DO IT IN MY HEAR." Then, they had to audacity to be pointing and whispering about me. I mean, go ahead and do that. I'm blogging about you anyways. But have the common courtesy to do what when I'm not looking right at you. Then, the two-girls-in-front-of-me-accompanied-by-one's-boyfriend, you guys are BIG. No, I don't mean "fat" because that would be offensive, right? Plus, who am I to be calling you that when I'm heavy myself? What I mean was... they were extremely tall, and had really broad backs. So if you could kindly stop stepping backwards into my face, I'd have appreciated you a lot more. What started out as a good space between us somehow turned into my face being pressed on their backs. Plus, with them being so tall, I felt like I was standing next to Mt. Everest and I swear the air pressure changed a bit. So, to the four people on either side of me, thank you so much for making yesterday that much more memorable.

Let me just insert some pictures as I cool myself down...

Fast forward to the actual moment when I get to "meet" Him Law...

Now, I use the term "meet" loosely. I guess that's even a stretch in itself too. I barely even got to "see" Him Law, and this is why.

Before I continue, let me mention four people to you. As I don't know their names, we'll call them:
  1. "Man in Black T-shirt (MIBT)"
  2. "Man in Yellow T-shirt (MIYT)"
  3. "Woman in Green T-shirt (WIGT)", and
  4. "Annoying Woman (AW)"
So as my friend and I were standing in line approaching the stage where Him Law was, we were planning on how we were going to take our picture with him. Keeping last year in mind, we knew MIBT was going to rush us, and our photo was going to end up horrible. I saw people hand their phones/cameras to their friends, and their friends would take the picture for them. It'd probably be a lot better than if MIYT took the photo. Let's all keep in mind that you're not allowed to go behind the stupid table and take a picture. No. You lean across a table and try your best to match your face's angle to Him Law's and take a good picture where you don't look as if you're both staring in different directions. This itself was just ridiculous. I mean, why are you rushing everyone so much? Everyone literally gets 3 seconds with Him before they drag you offstage. I WANT A GOOD GOD FORSAKEN PHOTO. I WILL GIVE UP HIS AUTOGRAPHED NEWSPAPER FOR IT, OK?

So as we're heading upstage, I told my friend to take my iPad (she forgot her camera) and take a photo in a "selfie" way. That way, we're in control of the camera and we know when to snap the photo so that it looks good. We even came up with a backup plan in case the "selfie" method didn't work. If we're not allowed to take the photo ourselves, we'd let each other take it. As we're walking up the stairs, WIGT saw my friend holding my iPad with the front-camera on, and told her that she's not allowed to take photos herself or with the help of me and that MIYT was the only person allowed to take photos. OK PUTA REALLY, EH? HE'S THE ONLY ONE ALLOWED? SO WAS I HALLUCINATING WHEN I SAW OTHER GIRLS TAKING PHOTOS OF THEIR FRIENDS WITHOUT THE HELP OF YOUR USELESS STAFF?

Ok fine. So you'll take my picture. I'll hold it in. My hair was neat, I was wearing a nice outfit, and I practiced my smile. Oh yeah, thank you for taking the picture as I was blinking by the way.

But it's not like I got to say anything, because AW was rushing me off stage before I even had to time to collect my autographed newspaper and iPad.

Let's just break this down into questions, ok?
  1. Why am I not allowed to take my own photo?
  2. Why am I not allowed to let my friend take my photo?
  3. Why were others allowed to let their friend take their photo but not me?
  4. Why are you incapable of taking the photo when my eyes were open?
  5. Why can't you let me collect my belongings before you rush me offstage?
  6. Do you think I'm deaf when you guys repeated over 60 times that everyone must immediately leave the stage after the autograph/picture?
  7. If so, are you insinuating that my friend and I, along with the rest of the people you rushed off stage, are somehow disabled? Hard of hearing, or perhaps we're not intelligent enough to comprehend your simple instructions?
  8. If you're going to insinuate that I'm disabled in some way, may I do the same? Are you blind? Can you not see that I'm grabbing my stuff and heading in the direction to get off stage?
and that would conclude my rant...
excuse me as I get annoyed over another problem in my life.

P.S: Update soon. Another K-pop related rant or should I upload photos of my uneventful life? Hmm...

Update + Rant on ELPE

WARNING: Slightly long post with no visuals follows. Readers discretion is advised.

So, how long has it been since the last update from me? Probably not long, right? My buddy did make a post about SMASH just a couple days ago and I think that managed to bring in quite a bit of readers LOL. Anyways, if she's been slow it's mainly because school is annoying and she's been really into "Smiling Pasta" and "Ouran High School" lately, but I'm sure she'll tell you more about that some other time.

Me? I've been schooling and lazing around, as per usual. It's currently the exam period and I already finished two final exams which I think I did okay on. I have three more and those three are probably going to be the death of me. I should probably get back to studying but I just need a moment to rant to the World about why the ELPE is stupid.

The following is what happened:
So basically, the ELPE is the English Language Proficiency Exam administrated by the University of Waterloo every year. All first year students must write it and pass, with passing grades being 60% or 65% depending on your program. For this last week, I've been focusing all my energy into studying for my French final exam and I pretty much did nothing else. The ELPE was scheduled to be written the day before my final for French. Since I figured an English exam can't be anything too bad, I didn't "prepare" for it as it was suggested many times by the university. Plus, I figure my English skills, albeit not the best, was still good enough for me to get a 65% on the ELPE. I mean, I did the Literacy Test that was administrated by the damn government back in grade 10, and I killed that with a 98%. This? This ain't got nothin' on me bro.

Go into exam. Write the exam. Finished the exam feeling slightly less confident but still sure I passed. Then, it clicked.

"Oh shit, they asked for two body paragraphs. I wrote four because I split up my two arguments. Each paragraph needs 5-8 sentences and I don't know if some of mines had 5 sentences considering I split up my arguments. Oh crap. There goes a bunch of marks. Plus, it's not like the quality of my work is the best either. Damn it all. I failed."

And so I've begun the terrible phase after my tests/exams where I feel like absolute crap because I'm convince I failed.

Now, ELPE, you want an essay, right? Here you go. The way you want it.

A (slightly informal) essay on why the ELPE needs to be abolished:

Every year for as long as I can remember, I've heard people tell me the value of time, the value of planet Earth and the conservation of trees, and that tests scores are not an effective way of measuring one's true abilities. With that in mind, I wish to inform all readers that the ELPE test contradicts all those principles that I have been told for a very long time. This exam wastes not only my time, but the creator's time. It also destroys innocent trees that could have been used for better and more effective purposes that will further benefit our livelihood. Lastly, the way in which it measures my proficiency in English is not accurate and in no way indicates my true potential. Therefore, the ELPE needs to be eliminated by the administration.

The first reason, and probably one of the most important reason, as to why the ELPE is ridiculous is because it is a waste of time. It is a waste of time for all participants to this exam, whether they created it or they wrote it. First, let's focus on why it is a waste of my time. For me, a native English speaker, to be tested on her English proficiency is just plain silly. One of the main requirements for me to become an Arts student at the University of Waterloo is to have a grade 12 English mark of above 80%. An 80%, as known by all students, parents, and administration, indicates that a student is at an above average level for that particular course. If that was the case, and was one of the basic requirements for me to attend classes at this university, then I feel like my English skills should not be doubted by the administrators of this exam. Although the time used to write this exam was not long, that one hour that it took could have been dedicated to me doing something I either enjoyed or studying for my important final exam the following day. Secondly, it is also a waste of the administrators of this exam's time. The time wasted on creating topic questions for students to answer, the time wasted on printing out thousands of sheets of paper for each student, the time to set up the exam are just a few examples of the large quantities of time wasted on overseeing an overly-elaborate exam that can only be described as "useless". This whole exam, as known by almost every student, is basically directed at the large amount of international students who are at this university. If it is them that the ELPE is targeting, why not waste less time selecting the international students and only presenting them with the exam? However, even then, I strongly believe that the completion and passing of the ELPE for international students is a waste of time. From my understanding, the international students that come here must pass some sort of English proficiency test to be admitted into the school. I don't know too much about it, but I believe the exam is called a TOEFL test or something along those lines. Now, let's assume you failed the ELPE. If this was to happen, you have to make an appointment with a tutor who will review the exam with you and then you'd have to rewrite it, take writing sessions, or complete an entire course on writing. If that's not a waste of time, then I don't know what is. Thus, this concludes my argument as to why the ELPE is a waste of time for native-English speakers, for international students, and for the creators of this exam and in consequence, should be eliminated.

Oh, was that over 5-8 sentences? Oh well.

The second reason as to why the ELPE should be terminated is because it is a waste of trees. Each student is presented with one sheet of paper which indicate the instructions and the topic questions they can choose from. On top of that, each student is presented with an exam booklet that contains blank lined-paper inside. Each booklet has approximately eight pages. There were supposedly over nine hundred Arts students writing the exam at the same time I was. Now, I'll assume there are five other faculties. If there are six faculties in total, and each faculty had an average of seven hundred and fifty students, that would mean that there are approximately four thousand five hundred students annually who write this exam. Each student has a booklet with eight pages, so that's thirty six thousand sheets of paper. Let's throw on the instruction sheet which is another forty-five hundred sheets of paper. I'll drop 10,000 in the number, and say that the final number comes to about 30,000 pieces of paper. Now, I don't work with the paper mill, but I do know that 30,000 pieces of paper is quite a bit considering it's used for an exam that is of no worth. How many rolls of toilet paper is that? How many books can be made from that? How many useful notices can be placed on bulletin boards from that? How many times can I wipe my nose with napkins from those thirty thousand sheets of paper? The answer is simply, "too many". Hence, because the ELPE goes against a very big issue in today's society, the idea of conserving the environment, we must exclude this exam from existing in the future.

Sorry, that was probably over 8 sentences as well. Should I split that up? Probably not.

Lastly, I feel that the way in which this exam measures my abilities in English is not a true indication of my real potential. This informal essay I am currently writing is also not a good representation of my true potential and this is already ten times better than my work that I presented to the university for further judgement. When I'm assigned essays to be written in school, I often have over two weeks to complete the work. By that time, I would have time to properly present my ideas in a respectable and coherent manner. I will have the time to edit my work and get it proof-read by many reliable people and be able to present it to the teacher or professor with my best foot forward. However, even in those circumstances, I may still not be able to achieve an amazing grade. If I can have all the time in the world, I may still not be capable of writing the "World's best essay", so who actually thinks that I can produce something of good quality in an hour or less? In this day and age, everything can be done on the computer. With the amount of time I dedicate to Skyping with my friends everyday and blogging, I can now achieve a typing speed of over 80 WPM, if I really focus. Writing though, I can't say I'm as skilled. Perhaps it's because I don't write often, or maybe my overweight hand can't seem to go as fast as I would want it to. What I'm really trying to say though is: Given one hour to write about a topic I don't feel passionate about, with no aid from a keyboard, I'm just bound to not produce quality work. Therefore, I don't feel like I should be judged on something that I didn't put my 100% into. As a result, the ELPE should be made invalid because it does not show one's true potential.

For the reasons stated above, it is apparent that the ELPE should be abolished. It is not a good representation of my true capabilities as I am limited in time and resources. Furthermore, it goes against important environment conservation principles that our World is strongly promoting in recent years. Lastly, it is a waste of time for all exam creators and takers as it unnecessary for administrators to create these exams, and for writers to participate in an exam that we do not need to prove ourselves for. As students who barely have time to eat, as protectors of our planet, and as competent and literate pupils, we should not stand by and let the school determine whether we are capable of handling the English language.

Thank you.

And there you have it. An essay by me written in one hour (on the computer).

See, the thing is...

Results aren't up yet so me failing is all just the hypothesis of a overly-paranoid student who thinks she's horrible at everything she does. However, whatever the outcome, I stand by my words. I don't believe in the ELPE and I think that even if I had to go through it, I don't want future students to have to endure it as well.

Maybe I might have been a bit aggressive with the things I said but if there's one thing you take from this long-ass post... "The ELPE is annoying and should be abolished."

"Abolish the orgasm!" - George Orwell, 1984

...
Wait, that's not right, is it?

Anyways, here's a reward for reading that long rant/essay:

My hubby's recently been back with his new song, "Joah".
Give it a listen.
Feel good music.

Rant: Accounting

WARNING: This post will be extremely long and will probably lack visuals throughout. Readers discretion is advised.

I am completely aware that the title of this post lacks any sort of creativity but at this point, I am completely tired and I just want to do nothing with myself anymore. So without further ado, let's just get into this rant of why I hate accounting.

So basically, last night was my accounting midterm #2. That in itself is just stupid. At what point did the universe think it's acceptable to be making two midterms? How would that even be a midterm anymore? The word "midterm" in itself means that it is a test that should be taken in the middle of the course. There can be no two middles. But anyways...

For lack of better words, I pretty much failed that midterm. If I get anything above 50%, I will consider myself the luckiest girl in the world. While other girls are out there considering themselves the luckiest if they find a nice suitor, I will be here; blessed if I pass my accounting midterm.

After accounting midterm #1, I came back telling my roommate, "Wow! Was it just me or was that midterm just the best midterm ever!? I totally killed it!" Not in those exact words, but I was pretty damn confident. Got it back. 79%. I mean, 79% isn't really the worst mark out there. I am capable of doing so much worse. However, under those circumstances, it was absolute shit. I mean, the whole midterm was based off of material I learned in high-school. I mean, given, I didn't do well in accounting in high-school either, but the information was there. The worst part was, the midterm was broken down into four sections. I got a 85% on the first, 95% on the second, and 100% on the third. What killed me was getting a 56% on the final section which was worth quite a bit of marks. Plus, to top it all off, my roommates were there frolicking in a land of joy and lack-of-consideration-for-their-sad-roommate because they received grades of 90% and 97%. But that moment passed, and I got back on my feet because I have other midterms to be doing crap on!

Then, because I had a Legal Studies essay and midterm, Political Science midterm, Psychology midterm, and multiple French tests, I managed to completely stop doing accounting after the first midterm finished. Don't judge me yet, I will address this later. So the last weekend, I spent Saturday, Sunday, and Monday in Toronto, at home, studying. I made pages and pages of notes and studied everything carefully. Then, I attempted doing all the practices questions that I missed on the day of the midterm. Again, I will address this stupidity later. Now, after countless hours of work, I felt like I genuinely understood most of the material. I didn't feel a hundred percent ready for the midterm, but I felt good enough that I would receive an acceptable grade.

I go into the midterm and now I'm just staring at the 13 paged booklet in front of me. I was nervous but still feeling pretty okay with myself. As soon as we were allowed to start, I opened the booklet and there were 30 multiple choices questions before me. Given I didn't understand some questions, I still feel like I did fairly well on those. Then, there was a section where we have to calculate amortization. Bam, bam, bam. Finished those questions. Done, easy. Next, there was a section on preferred shares and common shares and distribution of them and arrears and just a bunch of crap I did not for the life of me, understand. I skipped this part and decided to come back to it later. The last part was transactions analysis. Three questions. Finished in five minutes, BAM. Then I spent the rest of the time just staring at the damn preferred/common shares question. That God forsaken question was worth 12 marks. The midterm was out of 85. In the end, I filled in some bullshit and just left.

I get into the car to head back to Toronto, already feeling like absolute shit. In the car ride back, my roommate was talking about the preferred/common shares question. All I heard her say was,

"I miscalculated the years!"
I didn't even know we had to calculate years.

"Oh my gosh, I heard other people getting 28 but I got 29!"
What's 28 and 29? My numbers were in the thousands.

And then she said, "Oh yeah, when I calculated the answer for the double-declining balance, I didn't have enough money left for year five!" Then, I swear to Lucifer, my world stopped because when I did that question, I know I had more than enough money to carry into year five. When I told her this, she said, "Wait, are you sure you did it right?"

What.

Shit.

Realization that I used the wrong formula. Then I realized: If I used the wrong formula for that question, that means I must have mixed it up with another formula. Which means that I got not only that question wrong, but another one because I must have mixed up two formulas. Ba-bam, 17 marks right there.

Now, at this point, I have lost 29 marks already, ok? I would think, "Oh well, if I'm lucky, I'll get half-marks!" but I highly doubt that. Then, let's add in the fact that I might have made other mistakes throughout the midterm. If the midterm was out of 85 marks, I'm just praying for a 42.5 which will give me 50%. But with each passing minute, I'm slowly losing hope because if I thought I aced the last midterm, and still got shit, can we just think how I'd do if I know I got shit? Will I even pass at this rate?

Alright, now we can rewind and go into depth of the multiple reasons as to why I failed that midterm. Three parts. Here we go.

Reason #1:
This is as simple as can be. This reason makes up 30% of the reason why I failed that midterm.

I didn't study.

I mean, I did study but not as thoroughly as I should have. I didn't touch accounting material since the end of the last midterm mainly due to work from other classes but also because I'm a lazy ass. I procrastinated on doing the accounting work, and I spent my time doing stupid things on LINEPLAY or playing on the Stardom app. Youtube, sleeping, going to club meetings, chilling with friends. Basically any excuse I can find to not do accounting, I probably took the opportunity. Which leads me to...

Reason #2:
A big part of the reason, probably about 40% of the reason why I did so poorly.

I hate accounting and I have zero interest in this class.

Ever since grade 11, when I first took accounting, I hated it. The first couple of tests I took in accounting class, I managed to somehow get high 90s on them. But when the work started getting more and more challenging,  I started to just give up on doing homework and resorted to just copying off my friends. Then, for tests, I got too lazy to study and I managed to just dig a hole for myself. By the end of grade 11, I managed to still get a fair grade in that class, somewhere in the mid-80s. Then, I made the awful mistake of taking the course again in grade 12. I was going to drop the class and switch my schedule around but the whole process was so over-overwhelmingly long and hard that I just didn't even want to bother with it anymore. By the time the papers would have processed for me to drop accounting, I probably would be too late into the semester and I would be behind in the classes I was trying to get into. So I stuck with it and again, I managed to start off the course well and then I just completely gave up towards the end. In fact, I think I managed to get some 40s on quizzes and tests. Those came as big shocks to me, someone who was so used to normally getting pretty average to decent grades, but then it just sunk in. I was not made for this course not because I suck at it, which is true to some extent, but because I just have no interest in it.

I have no motivation to do well and while you'd think that with my grades being on the line and university applications on the way, I'd panic, but I just didn't give enough flying fucks to care.

Because I think I just about bore everyone with this long post, here is a video about not giving fucks:

Back to the story.

So, by the end of accounting in grade 12, I managed to get a pretty crappy mark. With the final project coming along, a presentation on an company's financial statement and a SWOT analysis, I was determined to kill it and I did. Bam, instant grade booster. Awesome presentation by yours truly. But the problem was still there. Assignments and projects are always easy grade boosters. They hardly show a person's true abilities since you're granted so much time to finish them and you have all the resources you need to fix and edit the mistakes until you're finished and you're proud of the final product. This can't be done on exams. When exams came rolling around, I pretty much blew it and ended up with a final of a low 70 in accounting. Again, you'd think I care, but I just didn't.

Back to the present. I am sitting in accounting class. Notebook open, pen ready to go. I decide to play on my phone. Maybe that wasn't the right approach. I'll just do my homework in class as he teaches. I still play on my phone. Then, I brought my laptop in. Open a new Word document. I go on Tumblr. The thing is, it's come to the point where I don't view my distractions for accounting as distractions anymore. The things I do to avoid accounting is just because I can no longer even care for this subject/course. On the other hand, if you put me down for a Legal Studies paper or a three hundred page reading for Psychology, I'd probably get distracted, but at the end of the day, I will do the work and I will aim to do my best. Why? Because I have interest in those subjects. They're absolutely fascinating to me and accounting is not.

While we're all subject to our own beliefs and interests, I just want to take a moment for me to share my views on accounting. If I offend any accountants out there, I am truly sorry and I apologize for this rant.

There are many reasons as to why I hate accounting. It really comes down to one point though that I'll expand on. I find it dull. I find the job of accounting to be extremely mundane and repetitive. How is it that I am supposed to be able to spend hours everyday focused on a set of numbers?  How is it that I feel like I'm the only one who's so bored by this? I cannot sit down, look at numbers, decide which number is relevant and which are not, and then add or subtract them to find the actual number I really need and then input them somewhere and it's just, for lack of better terms, ugh.

There's probably someone out there who probably sees the same thing I see in accounting, for Legal Studies. And to that I can only say: To each their own. What I find interesting, you might not and vice-versa. Bottom line is: In my honest opinion, accounting is annoying, boring, and makes me want to kick puppies.

Reason #3:
This reason accounts for the last 30% of why I failed that accounting midterm.

The midterm was absolute bullshit.

Well, okay. I exaggerated that a little bit.

Everything I might have messed up on, aside from the preferred/common shares question, was completely my fault and I take responsibility for it. I was lazy and I didn't care for accounting, fine.

But that preferred/common shares question was 12 marks, buddy. If I was the only one who felt uncertain about that question, then I can say I deserved it. But after arriving home last night, I went on Facebook. On the Arts and Business Facebook group for my year, I found comments like:

"Ready to start praying for a bellcurve..."

"Eff praying...start petitioning!"

"So im not the only one..."

"We should all send him emails asking for an assignment as a mark booster, the hell with that midterm."

"It was mostly only the shares part that killed me. [...]"

Given that those people probably still did better than I did, I still feel slightly better about myself.

I sincerely hope that there's a bellcurve of maybe 10%. Maybe he'll drop that question of the midterm? Or maybe he'll actually give us a make-up assignment? I will do a lot of things if my professor is willing to give me a higher grade or a chance to redeem myself.

And there you have it, folks. Why I hate accounting and why I think it's a stupid course.

I mean, no offense to accountants and stuff. We need y'all. It's just... this course and that job? Not for me.

Irony of this being my mom was an accountant. You know how they say the child usually follows the career path of one of their parents? nOPE. Pardon my while I become a lawyer, or a teacher, or something I feel passionate about. So yeah, now I'm just here waiting for my mark to come out, which is probably soon considering my professor and his TAs seem to mark at the speed of light. Sigh.

If you managed to actually read this far, I thank you for putting up with my long rant.

If you didn't:

TL;DR: Accounting sucks and I hate it. I probably failed my accounting midterm and I'm praying for a bellcurve or a chance to redeem myself. Burn, accounting, burn!
